Between Self-Assessment, VAT, payroll, and Corporation Tax, most businesses are working against several recurring deadlines at once. Missing any of them tends to mean an automatic penalty, so it's worth having a clear picture of what falls when.

Deadlines that apply to individuals

The Self-Assessment online filing deadline falls on 31 January each year, with any tax owed due on the same date. A second payment on account, where applicable, is due by 31 July.

Deadlines that apply to businesses

  • VAT returns and payment, usually one month and seven days after each quarter end
  • Corporation Tax payment, nine months and one day after your company's year end
  • Company accounts filed at Companies House, nine months after year end
  • Confirmation statement, due annually on your company's incorporation anniversary
  • PAYE and payroll submissions, due each pay period

Our advice

We build a deadline calendar specific to your business as part of onboarding, and remind you well ahead of each one — the goal is that you never find out about a deadline by way of a penalty notice.
